Meg Ryan
Meg Ryan is a blonde-haired, blue eyed
woman with a vivacious personality. Meg Ryan was born Margaret Mary Emily Hyra
to Susan (Duggan), the daughter of an English teacher, and also a one-time
actor. Harry Hyra was a math teacher. Meg is of Ruthenian, Polish, Irish and
German roots. ("Hyra" is a Ruthenian surname, while "Ryan"
is her maternal grandmother's maiden name). Meg was graduated in June 1979
Bethel high school in Bethel. Meg relocated to New York City and studied
journalism at New York University. To earn extra money while completing her
studies, Meg went into acting under the name Meg Ryan. Her screen debut came in
1981 when she made a brief appearance as Candice Bergen's daughter in George
Cukor's last film Rich and Famous (1981). She was cast in the role as Betsy in
the TV soap The World Turns the World Turns (1956) after she tried out. The
show starred her from 1982 until 1984. Meg was also part of the TV show One of
the Boys (1982) and was removed. In 1984, she moved to Hollywood and was offered
an opening in the western television series Wildside (1985). Meg was in a small
part in Top Gun (1986), which led her to be cast in Steven Spielberg's
Innerspace (1987) in which she co-starred with Dennis Quaid. In the remake of
D.O.A., she starred again with Dennis Quaid. (1988) They got wed on Saint
Valentine's Day 1991. Meg appeared in 1989's When Harry Met Sally... (1989),
and the restaurant scene was made famous. Meg was nominated both the Golden
Globe and the BAFTA. In 1990, she co-starred with Tom Hanks in Joe Versus the
Volcano (1990) and this time she played three roles as DeDe/Angelica/Patricia.
She was also a part of the hugely successful Sleepless in Seattle (1993) in
which she received nominations for the Golden Globe. In 1994, Meg decided to
act against type when she appeared as the wife of an alcoholic and mother in
When a Man Loves a Woman (1994). Following that, Meg went back to her
"cute" I.Q. (1994) as well as French Kiss (1996). The year 1994 was
the year that Meg won the Harvard Hasty Pudding Award for being "Woman of
the Year" and was named as being one of "The 50 most beautiful people
in the world in 1994" by People Magazine.
