Alexandra Rose Raisman Bio

Alexandra Rose Raisman (born May 25 in 1994) is a retired American artistic gymnast, and a two-time Olympian. She was the American women's Olympic gymnastics team captain for both the 2012 and 2016 "Fierce Five" U.S. teams. She received gold in the team competitions during the 2016 Olympics. Gabby Douglas as her teammate also received gold. Raisman was awarded silver medals in the all-around individual and floor exercise. She is the third most decorated American gymnast in Olympic history, following Shannon Miller and Simone Biles who have won six Olympic medals.Raisman was also a member of the gold-winning American teams at the 2011 and 2015 World Championships, and the world bronze medalist on floor exercise in the year 2011. She also is the two-time champion of the national championships of floor exercise (2012,2015) and the 2012 national champion of balance beam and five-time medalist at national championships all around (silver in 2016, silver in 2011, 2012 (2012), and in 2015. Inducted into The International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame in 2013. Raisman was born on May 25, 1994 in the Boston suburb of Needham, Massachusetts, to Lynn (nee Faber), a former high school gymnast as well as Rick Raisman. She has three younger siblings: Brett, Chloe, and Madison. Raisman, who is Jewish and has stated that she takes great pride in being able not only to represent the American people, but also the Jewish community all over the world. "Raisman began gymnastics when she was 18 months old. She attributes her early interest in gymnastics to the "Magnificent Seven", a U.S. women's gymnastics team that won a gold medal at the 1996 Summer Olympics. She was a student at Exxcel Gymnastics and Climbing until the level 8. Then she joined Brestyan's American Gymnastics Club with coaches Mihai and Silvia Brestyan. Raisman was a graduate of Needham High School in 2012. She completed her senior year online while working towards the Olympics.
